We have many years experience in planting, laying and restoring hedges.
Our planting involves the use of conservation hedgerow mixes of species including Hawthorn (Crataegus monogyna), Hazel (Corylus avellana), Blackthorn (Prunus spinosa), Dog rose (Rosa Canina) and Spindle (Euonymus europaeus), dependent on soil type and geography. We would normally plant hedgerow trees at approximately 20 metre spacing, such as oak (Robus quercus), Ash (Fraxinus excelsior) and Rowan (Sorbus aucuparia). Planting involves ground preparation, mulch mats or mulching with organic matter and maintenance cutting/trimming.
All whips and trees are protected with rabbit guards and in area with deer, tree guards.
We hedgelay using homegrown coppiced hazel stakes and binders, laying in the style peculiar to the county.
Our restoration projects include thinning out, laying and gapping up,bringing old, dishevelled and under managed hedges back to life.
Hedgelaying provides a low cost alternative to hedgerow maintenance over many years.
